چکیده

The isolated cat gastrocnemius preparation was used to study the relation between the washout of Xenon measured by external monitoring and blood flow measured directly by a dropcounter. The experimental possibility was thereby tested of recording the total tracer bolus and its subsequent washout by external monitoring, using the height H and the corresponding area A of the washout curve. The partition coefficient A, and the amount of recirculation were evaluated in separate experiments. According to Zierler, the blood flow per gram of tissue should equal A. • H/A. This relation was verified experimentally. Exponential analysis was carried out but the results of it were not considered to support the hypothesis of a two compartment inparallel model in skeletal muscle. The shape of the washout curve did not suggest the existence of A-V shunts. ADDITIONAL

Inert gas diffusion method for measurement of blood flow using saturation techniques. Comparison with directly measured blood flow in isolated gastrocnemius muscle of the cat.

The isolated gastrocnemius muscle of the cat was used to study the relation between the desaturation of xenon measured by external monitoring, and blood flow measured directly by a dropcounter. The metered blood flow agreed with that calculated from the initial slope of the desaturation curve from tissue equilibrated by prolonged intra-arteria] infusion and also by atraumatic gas labelling of a...

Measurement of Cerebral Hemispheric Blood Flow by Intracarotid Injection of Hydrogen Gas

To develop a reliable method for measuring hemispheric blood flow and metabolism in man, the clearance of hydrogen was measured in the cerebral lateral sinus blood of macaque monkeys after intracarotid injection. Hydrogen is an inert gas and its clearance from cerebral venous blood depends solely on arterial inflow, and since it is highly diffusible, rapid equilibrium is maintained between brai...

An Improved Method for Injection of Bolus Doses of Drugs into the Perfusion Circuit of Isolated Perfused Rat Kidney Utilizing a Six-port Injection Valve

The isolated perfused rat kidney experiment was introduced in 1959 for studying the regulation of renal blood flow and is recognized as a valuable preparation for studying physiological and biochemical aspects of renal function such as hemodynamics, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and overall handling of fluids. Dose-response curves are obtained by injection of bolus doses of drugs into the pe...

Human cerebral blood flow measured by two inert gas techniques. Comparison of the Kety-Schmidt method and the intra-arterial injection method.

Two inert gas methods for measurement of tissue blood flow were compared. The two methods are (1) Kety and Schmidt's inert gas saturation method, in which the tissue saturation is followed by detecting the concentration of the tracer in the venous blood leaving the organ and (2) the intraarterial radioactive inert gas injection method where the tissue washout is measured by detecting the residu...
